LIFE Armstrong County Celebrates 10 Years of Supporting Seniors at Home Posted on April 14, 2025 A decade ago, Lutheran SeniorLife partnered with Armstrong County Memorial Hospital to lay the foundation for a bold vision: to support the county’s senior population by helping them remain in their homes, surrounded by comfort, dignity, and community. From that vision, LIFE Armstrong County was born—a program dedicated to delivering compassionate care, fostering independence, and building a sustainable model where older adults could truly thrive on their own terms. Today, and throughout this month, we proudly celebrate ten years of that enduring promise. Participants, staff, and community guests are coming together in joyful recognition of a milestone that honors not only the past but also the vibrant community that has grown from it. The celebration brought together the very heart of the LIFE Armstrong County community. A festive balloon arch framed the event space, welcoming attendees as they posed for photos beneath a bold banner that read, “10 Years, 1 Million Memories.” A beautifully decorated anniversary cake was shared by all, while a photographer moved throughout the room, capturing candid moments and engaging participants in conversation about what the program has meant to them over the years. Their reflections were as diverse as they were heartfelt: “Maya’s cooking demo,” shared James Corkins, recalling his favorite memory. “Playing games with my (rowdy) friends!” laughed Sandra Bower. “Hanging out with friends,” said James Whittaker, simply and sincerely. “Our 10th anniversary is a celebration of the incredible community we’ve built together,” Lesley McGregor, Director of LIFE Armstrong County, said, speaking from the heart. This program truly changes lives and today is a reflection of that impact.” Adding to the day’s significance, Armstrong County Commissioner Pat Fabian stood among the crowd, not as an elected official, but as a son. His mother, Judy Fabian, is a proud LIFE Armstrong participant. His presence underscored the personal impact the program has had on local families. Looking back on the past decade, the celebration also looked forward, with energy and a recommitment to the mission that started it all. “This milestone is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the resilience of our participants, and the strong partnerships within the Armstrong community,” said Leslie Kisow, Executive Director of LIFE Programs “It reflects our belief in what care should look like which is honoring every person’s journey with compassion, purpose, and respect. Seeing the smiles and hearing the stories today reminds us why we do what we do: to make meaningful connections and improve the quality of life for every person we serve.” As LIFE Armstrong turns the page on its first decade, the promise made ten years ago hasn’t just been kept—it’s been lived, every single day.
