The Good LIFE – August 2026 Posted on August 31, 2026 There are plenty of ways to spend a summer day at LIFE (Living Independence For the Elderly). At LIFE Lawrence County, that meant a “shark-cuterie” table and a celebration inspired by one of the most famous movies ever made. At LIFE Armstrong County, it meant carnival games, prizes, an ice cream truck and one clown who spent most of the day upside down. Two very different days. Both pretty good examples of what has been happening lately across our LIFE programs. LIFE Armstrong County Step Right Up: Carnival Day at LIFE Armstrong The clown spent the day upside down. Nobody at LIFE Armstrong County seemed too concerned. It was Carnival Day, after all. Games were set up throughout the center, including a prize wheel, can knockdown and disk drop. And yes, there were prizes on the line. But then the ice cream truck arrived. At that point, Carnival Day became a little less about winning a prize and a little more about deciding which flavor counted as lunch. Meanwhile, back inside, the clown was still standing on his head, apparently left to figure out how he was going to eat his ice cream without the use of his hands. Just another day at LIFE Armstrong County. LIFE Lawrence County You’re Gonna Need a Bigger Snack Table With Jaws celebrating its 50th anniversary, LIFE Lawrence County decided there was really only one sensible thing to do. Have Shark Day. There were games, crafts, shark tattoos and a photo spot where participants could pose right inside a shark’s mouth. This may be the only time anyone has been encouraged to stick their head between a shark’s teeth. Then there was the food. Staff put together a full “shark-cuterie” board with meat, cheese, fruit and crackers, along with Goldfish appropriately labeled “shark bait.” They really chummed the water with that spread. The shark theme carried through the rest of the day with ring tosses, tiny blue sharks and plenty of laughs — which was probably a relief, since screaming is usually what you hear when sharks show up. No one needed a bigger boat. The snack table, however, never stood a chance.
