A Pushcart of Kindness: How Monthly Flowers Bring Joy at Passavant Community Posted on September 10, 2025 The beauty of community often reveals itself in the smallest gestures. At Passavant Community, it arrives once a month on four wheels: a pushcart carrying fresh-cut flowers donated by Trader Joe’s. The scent leads the way and the sight does the rest, as colors and fragrance drift through the hallways, drawing smiles as the cart rolls by. A small, dedicated team of volunteers collects, arranges, and delivers the bouquets across campus. Their work is deliberate and unhurried; placing arrangements in dining rooms, common areas, and households, often asking nurses where a bouquet might bring the most joy. Any flowers that remain are left in the lobby as a gift for anyone who could use a lift. At the heart of the effort is Passavant resident Maxine Gant, who helps organize the distribution each month. For residents and staff, the effect is tangible. A simple vase can brighten a room, soften a day, and create a moment of shared joy, and this is exactly the kind of human connection Passavant values. “You have no idea the positive impact you make here on campus,” said Marjorie “Midge” Hobaugh, the community’s Director of Marketing and Communications. “This is the latest proof of your day-to-day kindness.” “Thank you Maxine for making it happen each month,” said Laura Roy, executive Director of Passavant Community. “What a sweet way to bring beauty and joy!” Instead of being “just flowers,” these monthly deliveries have become a ritual of kindness, a moment of beauty, a reminder that joy doesn’t always come in grand gestures. Sometimes it rolls quietly down the hall on a pushcart, carried by neighbors who care.
