Passavant Community’s Second Annual Chili Cook-Off: A Festive Feast of Flavor and Fun

The aroma of simmering chili filled the air in Scholl Conference Center at Passavant Community as residents and staff gathered for the second annual Chili Cook-Off, organized by resident Al Stoker. Stoker, a passionate chili enthusiast, started the event out of his sheer love of making and eating chili.

“We had 10 crockpots of chili today,” said Stoker. “They all were empty at the end.”

Three Passavant staff members took the role of judge, evaluating each entry and scoring them to determine the winners in three categories; Regular, Spicy and Veggie.

After much deliberation, the 1st place winners were announced:

Resident Phyllis Stoyle claimed the crown for her rendition of regular chili. Resident Paul Payerchin won in the spicy category with his fiery creation and Patty McElroy emerged victorious in the veggie category with her flavorful offering.

So what’s the secret to crafting an award-winning chili? “A little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a little bit of love,” explained Payerchin with a grin.

“It was such a wonderful day,” Stoker remarked, reflecting on the event. “Lots of friends, lots of fun, and lots of good chili.”
