The Good LIFE – February 2024

Each day, the LIFE Centers of Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, and Lawrence counties support the needs and services of participants. LIFE’s managed care model helps support older adults live independently at home with the monitored care they need to thrive in their neighborhood.

February was a month filled with joyous celebrations and vibrant gatherings across the LIFE Centers. At LIFE Armstrong, the community honored the extraordinary life of Hannah Cloak on her 107th birthday. Meanwhile, LIFE Beaver County participants proudly showcased their artistic talents at a captivating art show, alongside embracing the festive spirit of Mardi Gras. Over at LIFE Butler County, the center hosted their inaugural Winter Gala, highlighting beauty and dance. LIFE Lawrence County embraced the excitement of the Super Bowl with a spirited tailgate event while also showing their support of heart health for American Heart Month.

LIFE Armstrong County Celebrates Hannah Cloak’s 107th Birthday

To some, Feb. 19 is just another day, but to Hannah Cloak, and to everyone in Armstrong County, it is quite literally her day. In celebration of her 105th birthday, Armstrong County Commissioners proclaimed Feb. 19 as Hannah Cloak Day in the county.

Cloak’s celebration was highlighted on KDKA’s Pittsburgh Today Live (PTL) featuring her big cake as well as her two children Dale Cloak, 84, and Sally Pennington, 77, friends and participants of LIFE Armstrong County.

LIFE Beaver County

LIFE Beaver County participants, Mary & Vince featured on KDKA

It is not just another LOVE story. It is a LOVE story that has been years in the making… Only a few months have passed since Mary and Vince took their vows at LIFE Beaver County. “Meeting Vince was the last thing on my mind,” said Mary, as she told their story to KDKA-TV | CBS Pittsburgh reporter Jessica Guay “She gave me purpose and a reason to be,” added Vince. “She made me feel lovable again.”

Unveiling a Year of Artistic Brilliance: LIFE Beaver County Showcases Captivating Masterpieces from 36 Participants at Annual Art Show

Throughout the last year, LIFE Beaver County participants have poured their hearts into the Art Club program, creating a captivating collection of artworks. The talent of 36 participants masterpieces now graces the walls of their center as part of the LIFE Beaver annual art show! Each piece of artwork, showcases the diverse skills within the creative community.

 

Creating Mardi Gras Mask-terpieces

To celebrate the Louisiana holiday, participants unleashed their inner artist, designing their own Mardi Gras mask from scratch. Participants sketched out their own designs, painted their mask using the traditional colors of Mardi Gras which are purple, green, and gold and decorated them using colorful feathers and rhinestones.

“I am just blown away by every person here,” exclaimed Bridget Gerlinger, LIFE Beaver Recreation Assistant, who helped organize the paint party. “They each had their own, unique vision for their mask. They did spectacular, used their own creativity and each mask came out individually differently. Everyone was so talented!”

 


LIFE Butler County

LIFE Butler County’s Inaugural Winter Gala: A Celebration of Beauty and Dance

In a dazzling debut, LIFE Butler County hosted its inaugural Winter Gala, a sensational two-day affair that unfolded on February 26th and 27th, meant to embrace beauty and spark some dance moves. The soiree kicked off each day with participants being pampered by the talented LIFE Butler County staff, indulging in hair and makeup sessions.

“I want the works!” said participant, Carolyn Mazar about wanting to get her makeup and hair done.

Linda Kleemann, Rehabilitation Technician, has been with Lutheran SeniorLife for 49 years helped participants with their hair while Davison and Terri Clouse, Physical Therapist Assistant, worked on the makeup. Other departments who helped in various capacities included Therapy, Social Workers and the Recreation Staff.

“Just seeing all the reactions from everybody, you just want to see people happy and today, there was a lot of happy people,” said Tallarico.

LIFE Lawrence County

Honoring American Heart Month at LIFE Lawrence County

February is American Heart Month, a time when all people are encouraged to focus on their cardiovascular health. To honor this cause, the staff and participants of LIFE Lawrence County came together to show their support of heart health by wearing the color red

 

LIFE Lawrence County Host Tailgate for the Big Game

Lawrence County participants kicked off their pre-Super Bowl celebrations in style as the LIFE center hosted an exciting tailgate event.

Participants did their best Patrick Mahomes and Brock Purdy impressions with an accuracy passing game, throwing a football through the uprights to a receiver for a touchdown. After all that action, it was time to refuel and recharge. The food spread included popcorn for a classic game-day snack, as well as a crackers, cheese, and pepperoni.
