LIFE at Its Best: Celebrating 11 Years of Friendship and Fun at the Annual Joint Picnic Posted on June 26, 2025 LIFE Lawrence County and LIFE Butler County recently celebrated the 11th year of a cherished summer tradition—their annual joint picnic at Moraine State Park. What began as a simple gathering over a decade ago has blossomed into a beloved event that brings together participants, staff, and caregivers for a day filled with food, fun, and connection. From the moment the first buses pulled into the park, participants beamed, with many greeting each other with warm hugs and waves after a year apart. Staff and volunteers, many of whom have attended for years, moved like a well-oiled machine to ensure this was the best day ever for everyone. The smell of grilled burgers and hot dogs filled the air as staff served up a delicious spread that included macaroni salad, chips, mixed fruit, cookies, and refreshing drinks like lemonade, iced tea, and cold water. After lunch, everyone headed down to the dock. Laughter erupted during a water balloon toss. A pair of friends swayed gently to the rhythm of a classic song playing from a portable speaker. Others lingered by the water’s edge, watching fish ripple beneath the surface and soaking in the peacefulness of the lake. “It’s always a highlight of the summer,” said Riley Gallagher, Recreational Therapist at LIFE Lawrence, reflecting on the spirit of the day. “The participants are always excited and look forward to this day.” Now in its 11th year, the picnic remains a shining example of what the LIFE Programs are all about—enriching lives through community, compassion, and shared experiences. Lutheran SeniorLife is proud to support such meaningful events that continue to strengthen the bonds among participants and staff alike.
