15 Years of Making Independence Possible at LIFE Lawrence County

Some milestones are measured in years. Others are measured in lives changed.

This June, LIFE Lawrence County celebrated its 15th anniversary, marking fifteen years of helping older adults remain safe, healthy, independent, and connected to the communities they call home. While the milestone recognizes years of service, its true significance can be found in the thousands of lives touched, families supported, and moments of independence preserved along the way.

Since opening its doors in 2010, LIFE Lawrence County has grown into a trusted resource for older adults and their families throughout the region. What began as a commitment to reimagining senior care has evolved into a comprehensive model of support that empowers participants to remain in their homes while receiving the medical care, social services, transportation, and personal support they need to thrive.

For fifteen years, the organization’s mission has remained remarkably consistent: helping older adults live with dignity, purpose, and independence without sacrificing the comforts of home or the connections that matter most.

The anniversary celebration brought together participants, families, employees, healthcare partners, community leaders, and supporters to reflect on that journey. Guests toured the center, connected with team members, and learned more about the innovative care model that continues to transform lives throughout Lawrence County.

But beyond the celebration, the event offered an opportunity to reflect on what those fifteen years have truly meant.

For Recreation Therapy Manager Lisa Scheidemantle, who has been part of LIFE Lawrence County since its very beginning, the anniversary was a reminder of the countless individuals whose lives have been changed through the program.

“Just to see where we’ve come from and the lives I’ve helped change and made a difference in older people,” Scheidemantle said. “We’re improving the quality of people’s lives.”

That impact is evident every day—not only in the care provided, but in the independence participants are able to maintain.

Nursing Team Manager Natalie Pettitt, who has spent nearly fourteen years with LIFE Lawrence County, says one of the program’s greatest successes is helping older adults remain where they most want to be: at home.

“Seeing LIFE being able to keep people in their homes is just amazing,” Pettitt said. “I wish more people knew about it.”

For participants and families, that ability to remain independent often means far more than convenience. It means preserving routines, maintaining relationships, and continuing to live life on their own terms.

Participant Rose Marie Wilson knows that impact firsthand.

After losing her daughter several years ago, Wilson found more than healthcare services through LIFE Lawrence County. She found companionship, support, and a renewed sense of connection.

“What makes LIFE so great for me is I get out and socialize,” Wilson said.

Through transportation services, coordinated healthcare, and a dedicated team of caregivers, Wilson has been able to maintain both her independence and her peace of mind.

“LIFE means living on my own, not being in a personal care home,” she said. “I don’t have to worry about making doctor’s appointments or buying my meds on time. They take care of us.”

Stories like Wilson’s represent the true legacy of LIFE Lawrence County.

Over the past fifteen years, families have found reassurance knowing their loved ones are receiving comprehensive, compassionate care. Participants have remained active members of their communities. Employees have built meaningful relationships that extend far beyond healthcare. Community partners have worked together toward a shared goal of supporting older adults throughout the region.

The anniversary celebration ultimately became a celebration of trust—trust placed in LIFE Lawrence County by participants and families during some of life’s most important decisions.

It was a celebration of partnership—with healthcare providers, community organizations, and advocates who share a commitment to serving older adults.

And perhaps most importantly, it was a celebration of people.

The dedicated employees whose compassion, expertise, and commitment bring the mission of LIFE Lawrence County to life every day are the foundation of the program’s success. Their work has helped create a culture where participants are known, valued, and cared for as individuals.

As LIFE Lawrence County looks toward the future, the commitment remains stronger than ever. The needs of older adults continue to evolve, and the organization remains focused on meeting those needs with the same innovation, compassion, and person-centered care that have guided the program for the past fifteen years.

The first fifteen years have demonstrated what is possible when a community comes together around a shared purpose. Participants, families, employees, healthcare partners, and supporters have all contributed to a legacy that continues to grow stronger with each passing year.

This anniversary serves as both a celebration and a promise: a celebration of the independence preserved, the lives enriched, and the relationships built; and a promise that LIFE Lawrence County will continue helping older adults live safely, independently, and with dignity for generations to come.

Fifteen years is a milestone worth celebrating. But the true measure of success is not found in the number of years served.

It is found in every participant who remains at home, every family who finds peace of mind, and every life made better because LIFE Lawrence County was there when it mattered most.
