ASPIRE Wellness Hosts 17th Annual Fellowship & Fun Golf Outing

Bev Green, a 92-year-old resident of Passavant Community, participated in the 17th Annual Fellowship & Fun Golf Outing hosted by the ASPIRE Wellness Program. She teed off under a clear blue sky, surrounded by the scenic beauty of Hartmann’s Golf Course in Harmony, PA

“You’re never too old,” said Green after a hitting her tee shot into the fairway.

The event brought together 12 enthusiastic residents and four dedicated ASPIRE Wellness employees for a memorable day on the greens filled with joy, laughter, and a shared love for the game.

“This 9-hole golf outing is about fostering connections and celebrating the joy of being active together,” explained Chad Ift, Exercise Specialist & Aquatics Lead for the ASPIRE Wellness. “The residents enjoy coming out, getting together, and playing.”

Green was making her triumphant return to the golf course after a seven-year hiatus. Bev’s golfing journey began at the age of 65, thanks to her husband’s suggestion as a way to stay active and socialize after her children had moved out of the house.

“I wanted to come out today and play with my friends,” said Green about her return.

Passavant resident, Bob Spirk, echoed Green’s sentiment, highlighting the simple joy of the game.

“It’s just nice to be out having a good time,” explained Spirk. “You don’t have to worry about anything, just take the game as it comes and have fun.”

Al Stoker, another Passavant resident, played a pivotal role in organizing this year’s event. Stoker got together with the ASPIRE staff and thought of some fun new ideas for this year’s outing. The two new challenges this year included a closest to the pin and a special yellow ball designated holes. The yellow ball holes challenged a golfer to play their true hole score as opposed to the team scramble score.

“ASPIRE Wellness puts this on once a year. We got together and decided to really spice it up this year, with different kinds of challenges on different holes,” explained Stoker. “It’s really working out, people are enjoying it, having a good time, and that’s what it’s about – getting out here together and getting a little exercise.”

Spirk was appreciative of the outing, praising the staff for always going out of their way making things fun for the residents.

“They do an excellent job,” said Spirk.  “Everything I participate in, they are all enthusiastic and keep everyone motivated and laughing.”

Following the golf outing, everyone returned to the Passavant campus for a well-deserved dinner from Passavant restaurant, Baron’s Inn, capping off a day filled with fun, friendship, and the celebration of an active lifestyle.
