A Mission Advanced: Celebrating Jane Bittcher’s Decade of Leadership as the Lutheran SeniorLife Foundation President Posted on November 24, 2025 “Gratitude is the foundation upon which great achievements are built,” once said Jane Bittcher, a principle she has exemplified throughout her decade of leadership as President of the Lutheran SeniorLife Foundation. As she retires on December 19, Bittcher has impacted countless lives through her fundraising efforts, which directly contributed to moments of care, connection, and hope across Western Pennsylvania. Lutheran SeniorLife reflects on a tenure defined by vision, generosity, and an enduring commitment to transforming lives. For Bittcher, Lutheran SeniorLife has never been “just a workplace.” It has been a community she cherished, a mission she championed, and a calling that shaped her daily work. Throughout her tenure, she has been a tireless advocate for older adults, a trusted partner to colleagues, and a steward of generosity who elevated the Foundation’s reach and impact. Her ability to build deep and meaningful relationships with donors, partners, team members, and families has been central to the Foundation’s growth and success while strengthening Lutheran SeniorLife’s presence across Western Pennsylvania. Under her leadership, the Foundation expanded its support for critical services, introduced transformative programs, and secured the financial resources required to ensure that older adults can live with dignity, security, and joy. Bittcher’s steady leadership touched every corner of our organization, and her influence is visible in strengthened programs, expanded capacity, and the countless lives uplifted through her work. One of the most visible examples of her impact is the Foundation’s Annual Event, now one of Lutheran SeniorLife’s most significant traditions for inspiring generosity and mission support. It has become a catalyst for building donor partnerships and securing millions of dollars that directly support the Benevolent Care Fund, LIFE Programs, rehabilitation services, and other essential work that defines our mission. For Bittcher, this year’s Annual Event carried special meaning. “I feel a tremendous sense of gratitude and support,” she shared. “There are so many people who attend this event year after year, and I realize how much they love and appreciate the organization.” She also expressed her heartfelt appreciation for Grant Street Asset Management, the long-standing Signature Sponsor. “As family and as a partner, I have really enjoyed that relationship. Their commitment to our mission has meant so much.” Her final Annual Event as President was a fitting celebration of her decade of leadership, filled with joy, connection, and reflection on the donors whose generosity has shaped Lutheran SeniorLife’s future. Through her passion, empathy, and belief in our mission, Bittcher inspired others to give generously and consistently. Her legacy is one of vision, impact, and gratitude. As Bittcher enters her well-earned retirement, she leaves the Foundation exceptionally well-positioned for the years ahead. It is with great confidence and enthusiasm that we announce her successor. Joelleen Yerace has been appointed Vice President of Development and Fundraising. Yerace brings extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, a deep dedication to community impact, and a leadership style rooted in collaboration and integrity. She is known for her strategic approach, strong relationship-building skills, and genuine passion for service. She will continue the momentum that Bittcher helped create and advance the Foundation’s impact with clarity and purpose. In the coming weeks, Jane and Joelleen will work together to ensure a seamless and thoughtful transition. We are grateful for the leadership continuity this provides and confident in the Foundation’s future under Joelleen’s guidance. While Bittcher looks forward to the next chapter in her life, she leaves behind an enduring legacy built on compassion, excellence, and the belief that our mission transforms lives. In her own words: “Thank you for allowing me to be part of something truly special. Lutheran SeniorLife, and all of you, will forever hold a place in my heart.”
