The Good LIFE – December 2022

Each day, the LIFE Centers of Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, and Lawrence support the needs and services of participants. LIFE’s managed care model helps support older adults live independently at home with the monitored care they need to thrive in their neighborhood.

With the Centers appropriately decorated for the season, the dedicated staff of the LIFE Centers helped participants get in the holiday spirit by holding a number of Christmas activities. Participants of LIFE Armstrong engaged in snowball fights, compliments of Frosty the Snowman.  A major construction project kept the participants of LIFE Beaver busy working together to create a colorful gingerbread village.  The participants of LIFE Butler decorated and wrapped presents, while the staff at LIFE Lawrence held a door decorating contest for participants.

LIFE Armstrong

Frosty the Snowman wanted to have a little fun at LIFE Armstrong CountyFrosty the Snowman wanted to have a little fun at LIFE Armstrong County recently. LIFE Armstrong CNA, Chastity, has been randomly dressing up as Frosty the Snowman and starts a snowball fight (using indoor friendly soft snowballs) with participants.

The best part is, participants never know when Frosty might show up. After all of the snowball fun, participants enjoy snack and pose for photos with the silly snowman.

With the sweet smell of sugar in the air, participants built their very own gingerbread houses using food items such as icing, pretzels, candy canes, candies and sprinkles.“This is my first time building one,” said participant Helen Chop. “This is a really fun time!” The day was planned by the recreational therapy department and the dietary staff of LIFE Beaver. “We wanted to create a Christmas gingerbread village with all of the houses,” said Sheila Toomey, LIFE Beaver recreational therapist. “Everyone did such a wonderful job and now their work is the first thing you see when you come in.” Jolle Patterson, LIFE Beaver register dietician, noted that this was “close to a day in the life of the board game Candy Land.” “My favorite part was eating the toppings!” joked participant Karren Ruff.

LIFE Butler

Season’s Greetings from LIFE Butler County!Season’s Greetings from LIFE Butler County! The Participants at LIFE Butler County were making spirits bright when they held a Christmas decoration day at the center. While decorating Christmas trees and the center, participants had a Christmas sing-along to get the holiday season started. On another day, employees had an ugly sweater day and wrapped more than 160 gifts for the participants to unwrap for Christmas.

LIFE Lawrence

At LIFE Lawrence County, the Mohawk School choir (grades 6-12) sang Christmas songs for the participants followed by them signing Christmas cards and handing them out to everyone. Also happening, employees decorated all of the doorways in the center with different Christmas themes. “It was a great time, full of Christmas spirit and enthusiasm from everyone at LIFE Lawrence,” an excited Riley Gallagher, LIFE Lawrence Recreational Therapist exclaimed.Door decorations
