Did you know the Lutheran Service Society has provided foster and adoptive services in Western Pennsylvania for over 100 years?

Nationally there are over 117,000 children and youth waiting to be adopted who are at risk of aging out of foster care without permanent family connections. Did you know?

• More than half (52 percent) were male, and 48 percent were female.
• The three races or ethnicities with the largest percentages of children waiting were White (44 percent), Hispanic (23 percent), and Black or African American (22 percent).
• The average age is 8 years old.
• More than one in five children waiting to be adopted were teens.
• The average time in foster care is approximately 33 months.

In Pennsylvania, there are approximately 14,000 children in the foster care system. In 2021, Lutheran Service Society provided adoption and foster care services to 208 children and families.
