LIFE Kicks Off Steelers Season with a Pair of Tailgates Posted on September 30, 2026 If it’s September in western Pennsylvania, you don’t need a calendar to know football season is back. Your favorite jersey can be worn again, you can start twirling that Terrible Towel again, and it’s okay to question the play calling or know exactly who’s to blame for that failed drive or defensive breakdown. At LIFE Beaver and LIFE Lawrence counties, they didn’t wait for kickoff. They held tailgates of their own to get the season started. As Myron Cope might have put it: Yoi! So, cue the black and gold, start twirling those towels and let’s kick off these tailgates like there’s a stadium full of fans. LIFE Beaver County At LIFE Beaver County, the back of a pickup truck became tailgate headquarters. Black and gold was everywhere, with a few fall decorations mixed in. Like you’d find in any good pregame parking lot, there were a few games of cornhole going on, too. Thankfully, nobody had to spend $50 to park and party. All they needed was the LIFE Beaver parking lot, participants ready to yell at the TV and enough black and gold to make the point. LIFE Lawrence County If waving a Terrible Towel counts as exercise, the folks at LIFE Lawrence County definitely got their reps in. Participants and staff turned the center into their own little Steelers Nation tailgate. Terrible Towels and pom-poms were flying like it was the fourth quarter and “Renegade” had just hit the speakers. Time to make a little noise and give the defense some help. There were a few games, too, including a football toss that had everyone channeling Big Ben, Terry Bradshaw or whichever Steelers quarterback gets your vote as they tried to put one through the target for six. And no tailgate is complete without food. Hot dogs, onion rings, chips, cookies, cupcakes and a table full of game-day snacks kept everybody well fed between throws. The bigger part of LIFE is helping older adults stay where they want to be — at home — while still getting the care and support they need.
