A Christmas Adoption Blessing

(12/24/2021) A Christmas miracle comes in many forms. Lutheran SeniorLife is here to tell you the untold Christmas story of a newly married couple and 3 children who together, were given the ultimate Christmas present through the Lutheran Service Society adoption program; a family. This is that families story.

“My husband and I knew before we were married that we wanted to grow our family through adoption. Shortly after our wedding we reached out to Lutheran Service Society regarding their foster-to-adopt program.

Honestly, from the moment I placed the first call to set up an introductory meeting, the agency felt so welcoming. They came to our home to go over the entire process.

Our home study approval through the agency actually was dated for our first wedding anniversary. Over the next several months we attended matching events throughout several counties. I remember one day receiving an email from our caseworker about a county that had reached out to different agencies looking for a foster to adopt home for a sibling group of three. Were we interested in being interviewed?

Absolutely, I replied!

We were interviewed and offered the opportunity to meet the kids. We met the older two children later that week (the baby was unable to come) and said yes, the following week. The siblings were placed with us shortly before Christmas.

They were the best Christmas gift.

It was three and a half years before our children were adopted. It was one of the happiest days of our lives.

During those years we were also placed with their sibling. It was a case with many ups and downs and our caseworker was there right by our side for every email, phone call and text. And that is so important while navigating the foster to adopt road.

I think we can say with 100% certainty that we would not have been able to do this without our caseworker and other staff that we have met through Lutheran Service Society.”
