VNA Hospice Celebrates Life at Annual Beyond Memories Butterfly Release Posted on September 17, 2026September 29, 2026 For something that weighs almost nothing, a butterfly can carry quite a lot. At the VNA’s annual Beyond Memories Butterfly Release, it can carry a name, a memory, a person someone still misses. On September 13, families, caregivers and community members gathered at the Big Butler Fairgrounds for this year’s release. “Every year, we see families come back because this gives them a chance to remember their loved one in a very personal way,” said Janette Hensler, Director of Hospice and Outreach for the VNA. “You hear the names and stories, and you realize how much they are still a part of the lives of the people who came to remember them.” The ceremony included readings, music, the names of loved ones spoken aloud and the release of butterflies. Hospice Counselor Suzie Dalessandro once again played guitar during the service. The remembrance continued in the days that followed at Lutheran SeniorLife communities. Passavant Community and Newhaven Court at Clearview held butterfly releases on September 15, followed by St. John and RoseCrest on September 17, giving residents, families and team members their own opportunity to remember someone important to them. For the families gathered at each of these ceremonies, it was one more chance to say a name, share a memory and remember someone who still matters.
