Healing Beyond the Surface: How MPS Therapy is Transforming Pain Relief

Chronic pain can limit independence, disrupt daily life, and weigh heavily on overall well-being. But there is hope thanks to the dedication of the Rehabilitation Services team and the successful integration of Microcurrent Point Stimulation at multiple settings.

Molly Bargerstock, at certified pain practitioner in Outpatient Therapy at Passvant, is a PT focused on this effort to help residents live more comfortably by targeting pain at its source.

“MPS was designed to treat a wide variety of chronic and acute pain conditions, from neuropathy and inflammation to migraines and autoimmune disorders,” Bargerstock explains. “It works by applying concentrated microcurrent impulses to specific treatment points, calming the nervous system, relaxing muscles, and triggering the release of endorphins—our body’s natural painkillers.”

Resident Mary Jo Aguilera knows this impact firsthand. “I was supposed to have surgery after an MRI showed bulging and herniated discs,” she shares. “But after just two weeks of MPS therapy, the new back pain was gone and I never needed surgery. I no longer need epidurals, lidocaine cream, or pain medicine.”

What sets MPS apart is its holistic, trauma-informed approach.

“Instead of only treating the pain site, we look at the whole body and its trauma history,” Bargerstock adds. “Scars, both visible and internal, can disrupt the nervous system and fascia for decades. MPS helps release that tension and restore balance.”

Aguilera’s results is one of the many that have spoken for themselves

“People say things like, ‘I can now hike with my dog like I did 15 years ago,’ or ‘Pain I’ve had for years is gone,’” Bargerstock shares. “Once pain is managed, I can incorporate therapy like balance or gait training. That’s when real functional change happens.”
