Adult Day Program Opens at Passavant Community
A new program at Passavant Community will help alleviate some of the challenges and worry for caretakers living on campus and in surrounding neighborhoods. My Day Out, an adult day program in the Abundant Life Center, offers a safe, caring environment for seniors along with opportunities for social, recreational, fitness and wellness programs, meals and medication management. Other services such as assistance with obtaining required therapies in the outpatient gym, physician appointments at the clinic, personal care, assistance getting to beauty or barber appointments and social service assistance are also available for an additional fee or co-pay.
These services are especially helpful for older adults who are experiencing depression or grief, couples with one person as the primary caregiver for the other, parents living with adult children and adults requiring memory support.
“For any senior, socialization is key to an Abundant Life®,” said Christine Macedonia, associate director of residential living at Passavant Community. “Caregivers often forget this piece because they are so busy taking care of other immediate, physical needs of their loved one.”
My Day Out, Macedonia said, also provides much needed respite for the caregiver as well. “It gives them relief from constant caregiving and the chance to tend to their own needs while we take care of their loved one for a few hours.”
Mary Kay Hart, a resident of Zelienople, brings her mother Freda Hart to My Day Out once a week. She said that the program has been a blessing for both her and her mother. “I didn’t want my mother sitting in front of the television all day,” Mary Kate said. She explained that the My Day Out program offers socialization for her mother, and peace of mind for herself. “She can come here and see people her own age. Both her body and mind are getting much needed exercise, and the food is wonderful. She really enjoys being here.”
My Day Out has both half- and full-day programs available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information about the program, please call Passavant Community at (724) 452-5400.
