Residents, Families Enjoy Outdoor Carnival
Memories were made in September at the annual St. John Specialty Care Center/RoseCrest Assisted Living Family Fun Day. The carnival-like event gave residents and their families the opportunity to spend the afternoon outdoors enjoying food, games and entertainment.
“It was an awesome day for everyone who came out,” said Pam Hayward, director of activities and volunteer services at St. John Specialty Care Center. “It was a chance for families to take their loved ones outside to do something fun in a comfortable and safe atmosphere.” She explained that it is sometimes difficult, for children especially, to fully engage with loved ones while visiting indoors. This event allows for more active involvement for the whole family.
Hayward said that about 90 residents participated in the day’s event. For residents whose families were unable to attend, nurses and staff members were available to escort them outdoors and assist them with the activities.
“The residents especially loved the face painting,” Hayward said. “It was so great to look around and see how much fun they were all having and how happy they were.”
