VNA Holiday Grief Sessions Available

VNA, Western Pennsylvania will hold a community outreach program for those facing the holidays after a loss. The 45-minute session will be presented by Kelli Connolly, grief recovery specialist and medical social worker from VNA, and will include a remembrance ceremony. There is no fee to attend and light refreshments will be served.

Veteran's Chili Cook Off

Where: Center at the Mall, Beaver Valley Mall
Honor our local veterans while sampling a variety of chili recipes at Center at the Mall. To enter the chili contest, call the center at (724) 774-5654 to register. Judges will award $100 to each of the top four entries! Tickets are just $3, and veterans attend for free.

Estate Planning and Charitable Giving Check-Up

Aging Well Presentation

LIFE Butler County presents "Aging Well 55 and Beyond," with featured speaker Dr. Natarajan from LIFE Armstrong County. Get tips on how to age well medically, nutritionally, and physically plus information on available community supports and services.

Health and Wellness Fair

The Fitness Center is hosting a health fair including vendors, health screenings, information booths, massage therapy and demonstrations. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
Memory Support Group

Where: Passavant Community, Christ the Mediator Prayer Chapel
Passavant Community is hosting a monthly memory support group for the caregivers and loved ones of persons with dementia. The support group is conducted by trained facilitators from the Alzheimer's Association, and will provide a safe place for participants to develop a support system, exchange information, talk through issues and ways of coping, share thoughts and needs, and learn about community resources.

Faith Community Nurse and Health Minister Preparation Course

Where: UPMC Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA
This course is held September 23-24 & October 6-8.
Utilizing the Westberg Institute for Faith Community Nursing Curriculum, instructors from the Pittsburgh Mercy Parish Nurse & Health Ministry Program will give students all of the information and tools they need to successfully start a Health & Wellness Ministry in their own congregation. Topics include ethics, the importance of documentation, how to coordinate care, needs assessment, advocacy and much more. Cost to register is $200 for non-nurses and $395 for nurses seeking 38 CE credits and the Faith Community Nurse credential. Partial scholarships are available. Seniors for Safe Driving Class

Where: Passavant Community, Scholl Conference Center
Seniors for Safe Driving is the American Automobile Association's highway safety program for drivers 55 years and over. Become a safer driver through taking the class and receive a minimum 5% discount on your auto insurance as mandated by Pennsylvania state law.
No exam will be given, only classroom instruction is provided. Cost for the program is $16. Call (724) 452-3666 for more information.
VNA, Western PA Community Celebration of Life and Butterfly Release
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016 -

Where: Preston Park, Butler PA
Bring your entire family to this free community event and celebrate the lives of those we have lost.
The highlight of this uplifting ceremony is the release of butterflies and a reading of the names of those being honored or memorialized. Butterflies are available for purchase for a $25 donation by calling (724) 282-6806.
Other events include performances by the Circle of Friends Choir and a memorial tribute to those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 performed by the Meridian Veteran's Club.
For your comfort, we suggest bringing a blanket or lawn chair, as seating is limited. Transportation is available from the parking lots for those who need assistance. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
St. John Community residents and their families are invited to our annual Family Fun Day. Activities include carnival games, prizes, music, free food and drinks, and an antique car show. We hope to see you there!
Park Memorial Golf Classic to Benefit VNA Inpatient Hospice

Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Program

Do you have questions about caring for someone with memory loss?
Join us for Understanding Memory Loss: Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia, an educational program presented in cooperation with the Alzheimer's Association. There is no fee for the program, but registration is required by calling Julie Pella at (724) 545-8035. A light dinner will be provided, and on-site caregiving services are available.
Reflective Pastoral Training and Care Course
When: Tuesday, August 30, 2016 - 10:00amWhere: Passavant Community
Based on curriculum developed by the Lazarus Center in Ambridge, and facilitated by Lutheran SeniorLife/VNA, Western Pennsylvania, this course is ideal for pastors, church visitors and other Christians interested in improving or gaining new "helping" skills and/or visiting with individuals in need of emotional and spiritual support. Classes will be held every Tuesday through November 15th. For more information or to register, please call Rev. Valerie G. 12th Annual Grandparents Run

Runners and walkers of all ages and ability levels are invited to join us for the 12th annual Passavant Community Grandparents Run. The event will include a Triple Trot Challenge consisting of a 10-mile run, a 5K run and walk, and a 1-mile family fun run and walk. Awards and door prizes will be presented in various categories.
Proceeds benefit the Passavant Community benevolent care fund, which supports our residents who have outlived their financial resources.
