NAMI Family Support Group

When: Tuesday, February 11, 2014 - 6:30pmWhere: Beatitudes Room, Passavant Retirement Community

This group is in support of families and friends of persons with a serious mental illness. We will be meeting in a confidential setting for support of one another. Learn of resources, training and education available in the community. Occasionally, there will be speakers who are experts in the field of serious mental illnesses. Family members and friends will be given information on any conferences, workshops and webinars locally and throughout the state that they can attend. Additional dates include March 11 and April 8. Tech "Help Desk" Presentation

Caring Clown Visits

Our very own Caring Clowns will be visiting the nursing floors to bring a little cheer and a smile to our nursing residents. Additional visitation dates are March 10 and April 14.

Science on the Road

Everyone loves ice cream, so why not add even more excitement? See what happens when things get really cold - 320 degrees below zero to be exact! We whip up liquid nitrogen ice cream in just seconds. And yes, samples are included in this presentation by the Carnegie Science Center.

Log Cabin Inn Restaurant

Join us for a trip to a favorite local restaurant with a wonderful view of the rustic woods. Cost of transportation is $4 and the cost of lunch is on your own. This is a Passavant Retirement Community Personal Care/Newhaven Court resident outing, but others are welcome if space allows.

North Allegheny Fiddlers

The North Allegheny Fiddlers, under the direction of Dennis Morton, a string teacher within the North Allegheny School District, was organized in 2002 for students interested in expanding their love and knowledge of music. The students representing the North Allegheny Fiddlers are in grades 6 through 12. These fiddlers participate in a weeklong workshop during summer months. Tunes are taught and learned in the traditional aural style, meaning by ear and without the use of written notes. Local folk musician Mark Tamsula attends each workshop and presents the students with a variety of styles including Scottish, Irish, Old Timey, Scandinavian and Cajun. Enjoy an evening with these very talented kids as they perform for you!

Music in Our Schools

Passavant Retirement Community residents are invited to the Music in Our Schools program. The musical program features a mix of select elementary, middle and high school students each performing separately, then combining for a grand finale in which they perform together as a group. Cost of transportation is $8, and the concert is free. Please sign up at the Travel and Events Office.

Entertainer Dave Neal will play the organ and lead us in singing the old favorites. Additional dates include March 3 and April 7.

Baking for a Cause

If you enjoy working in the kitchen and sharing with friends, come join us as we bake for Meals on Wheels. We will also be baking on Monday, March 3 and Monday, April 7 at 1:30 p.m.

Passavant Singers Meeting

Red Hat Ladies

Clearview Mall Trip

We will be traveling to Clearview Mall for all your shopping needs. Cost of transportation is $8. Shopping and lunch are on your own. Sign up at the Travel and Events Office.

Passport to the World

We will continue our travels around the world by watching a video, making a craft and sharing a treat representative of another country. The kitchen will also serve a special dinner representing that country. Additional dates include February 17, March 17 and April 21.

Game Time

Come and have some fun while exercising your brain. Play popular television game shows like The Price is Right, Deal or No Deal and Family Feud. Additional game dates are February 7 & 21, March 7 & 21.

Low Vision Support Group

When: Thursday, January 16, 2014 - 1:30pmWhere: Center for Creative Expression, Passavant Retirement Community

This support group will provide aid with daily living for persons with low vision. We welcome discussion and suggestions from anyone in the group. Residents are welcome to bring friends and family. Travel the World Dining Journey

Residents at Overbrook Pointe are invited to take part in the Travel the World Dining Journey. Each monthly dinner will feature internationally inspired cuisine. Those who attend all 12 events will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a Captain's Dinner for six.

December's theme is New Year's in New Zealand.
