Rivers of Steel Tour

When: Friday, July 25, 2014 - 8:30amWhere: Pittsburgh, PA

Passavant Community's residential living residents are invited for this docent-let tour of the Bost Building and Pump House telling the story of iron and steel workers during the Homestead lockout and strike. Cost of transportation is $10 and the tour is $12. The group will stop on the way home for lunch. Please sign up in the Travel and Events Office by July 18. Waterfront Shopping Trip

When: Wednesday, July 23, 2014 - 10:00amWhere: Pittsburgh, PA

Passavant Community's residenital living residents are invited to a day of shopping at the Waterfront. Built on the site of the former Homestead Steel Mill, the Waterfront in Homestead provides 260 acres of shopping, entertainment and dining. This upscale shopping complex is one of the cool spots in Pittsburgh, with great ambience and action along Pittsburgh's rivers. There's even an old-fashioned village square surrounded by the shops, and the Loews Cineplex Waterfront Theater for those who do not wish to shop. Cost of transportation is $10. Mars Train Station Tour

Passavant Community's residential living residents are invited to tour the Mars Train Station, the red caboose, the Adams Shortline, the Butler Shortline Trolley Route and the gift shop. After the tour of the station, the group will stop for a bite to eat. The tour is free. Cost of transportation is $4. Contact Cathy Reid at X3431 for more information.

Passavant Community Dedication Ceremony

When: Wednesday, June 04, 2014 - 3:00pmWhere: Passavant Community

After three years of planning and construction, Lutheran SeniorLife's mission to provide an Abundant Life® for our residents will be more easily met, as the new Passavant Community and Abundant Life® Center are finally revealed at a Dedication and Celebration on Wednesday, June 4, 2014.

Invited guests will be treated to a Bell Choir presentation in the new Scholl Conference Center at 2:45 p.m., followed by a Dedication Program at 3 p.m. Music and song will be performed by the Passavant Singers and Seaman Church Choir. Comments will be given by David Fenoglietto, president and CEO of Lutheran SeniorLife and Laura Roy, executive director of Passavant Retirement Community. Bishop Kurt Kusserow of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will perform the sermon. Tours of the new building and refreshments will follow at 4 p.m.

On June 5, there is an invitation only event for prospects from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

 

Diabetes and Nutrition Presentation

Its also about eating healthy carbs and feeling full and content when mealtime is over. If you have been struggling to keep your blood sugars under control, isn't it time you find out what works? Get some advice from our guest speaker Helenkay Smith, registered dietitian nutritionist from Home Health. Blood pressure screenings will also be available.

Seniors for Safe Driving Class

When: Monday, May 12, 2014 - 9:00amWhere: Scholl Auditorium, Passavant Retirement Community

Become a safer driver and receive a minimum 5% discount on your auto insurance as mandated by Pennsylvania state law. Seniors for Safe Driving is the American Automobile Association's highway safety program for drivers 55 years of age and older. No exam will be given, classroom instruction only. Cost is $16. Please sign up at the Travel and Events Center.

We have the privilege of recognizing two Excellence is Ageless Honorees - The Honorable Tom Ridge and Mark H. Wholey, M.D. Mr. Ridge served our country as the first secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and former Governor of Pennsylvania, and is a decorated Vietnam veteran. He is currently President and CEO of Ridge Global, an international security and risk management firm. Dr. Wholey is an internationally recognized interventional radiologist, co-founder of MEDRAD, an inventor of the Wholey Wire used in vascular procedures, and currently is Director of the Center for Vascular and Neurovascular Interventions at Allegheny General Hospital.

Air Heritage Museum Trip

Passavant Retirement Community residents are invited to visit Air Heritage Museum, where aircraft from the past will guide you through the rich history of flights. Images of wings, beating propellers and blaring radial engines send some visitors reeling into memories of challenges bravely met in the past, while others are able to admire the acts that have led to today's flight technology. There are wonderful artifacts which include aviation-related displays from the early days of aviation to the present; civilian, commercial and military artifacts; Japanese and German artifacts from WWII. VNA 9th Annual Friendship Luncheon

Join us for the 9th annual Friendship Luncheon to benefit VNA Hospice and VNA Inpatient Hospice patients and their families. Mozart Festival

Then on April 28, you have the chance to attend the Mozart Festival at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in New Castle, PA.

Phipp's Conservatory Trip

It is time to look forward to new growth at the Spring Flower Show. Cost of transportation is $8 and tickets are $11. We will have lunch at the cafe at Phipp's, the cost is on your own. This is a Passavant Retirement Community Personal Care/Newhaven Court outing, but others are welcome if space allows.
