Overbrook Pointe Speaker Series

The public is invited to attend these new, monthly programs sponsored by Lutheran SeniorLife at Overbrook Pointe. The series, "Come. Learn. Grow," will feature speakers who are experts in a variety of fields.

April 25 - Seasonal Gardening Tips and Plant Care presented by Randy Soergel from Soergel Orchards in Wexford.

May 23 - History of the North Hills and Southern Butler County presented by local historian Joe Bullick.

June 20 - How to Determine the Best Time to Begin Collecting Your Social Security presented by Josiah Hoffman, independent financial advisor with Creese, Smith and Co.

August 22 - Timothy Sechler of Heritage Elder Law & Estate Planning, LLC will discuss elder laws and estate planning tips.

Grief Education & Support Classes

When: Thursday, March 30, 2017 -
6:30pm to 8:00pm
Where: VNA Hospice Bereavement Center

Please join us for this free series of support classes, beginning March 30th and running every Thursday until April 27th. You will have the opportunity to listen to grief specialists, share your experiences, connect with others who have experienced loss and discuss topics customized to the groups interests and needs. Spring Forward at Overbrook Pointe

Center at the Mall Art Exhibit

Where: Center at the Mall, Beaver Valley Mall

We are pleased to present our 5th Annual Expressions Juried Art Show! 

A "Meet the Artists" reception will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on March 30th.

This is an opportunity to enjoy the work of local artists and for artists in and around the area to showcase their talents and have their work juried for cash awards. All types of artwork are accepted, and artists in a variety of categories will be recognized.

To enter your art, you must reserve your space no later than March 24th. Entry fees for art are $5 per piece or $20 for five pieces. Payment is due upon registration. All art must be delivered to the Center at the Mall no later than 7 p.m. on March 28th. Selling art is permitted.

Reflective Pastoral Training and Care Course

When: Tuesday, March 14, 2017 -

Where: Seaman Memorial Chapel, Passavant Community

This seven-week course is ideal for pastors, church visitors and other Christians interested in improving or gaining "helping" skills and/or visiting with congregation members or other individuals in need of emotional or spiritual support. Navigating the World of Medicare and Medicaid

LIFE Programs Purse Bash

You could win a designer bag, beautiful gift baskets and purchase unique gifts at the 4th annual LIFE Programs Purse Bash! All proceeds benefit the LIFE Programs in Armstrong, Beaver, Butler and Lawrence Counties. This year's title sponsor is Heritage Valley Health System.

Black Tie Bingo Gala

When: Saturday, February 11, 2017 - 5:00pmWhere: The Fez, Hopewell Township

Mark your calendars for the 2017 Black Tie Bingo Gala in celebration of Lutheran Service Society's 110 years of serving seniors in Beaver and Allegheny Counties.

Tickets are $40 per person and include dinner and entertainment. Six bingo games will be called by local celebrities. Cash prizes will be awarded for each game. In addition, beautiful baskets will be up for auction. Proceeds benefit Lutheran Service Society.

Grief Support Classes

Elder Law Boot Camp for Social Workers

VNA Home Health and Hospice is hosting a free training session for social workers. This is a NASW-PA approved continuing education workshop. Seven credits will be given upon completion. Abundant Lights, Passavant Christmas Festival

Usher in the holiday season at the Abundant Lights Christmas Festival!

Residents and their families, friends and community members are invited to enjoy entertainment, refreshments, children's activities, horse-drawn carriage rides, the Celebration of Life ceremony, a basket raffle, a visit with Santa and much more.

New this year, all are invited to participate in the Gingerbread House Contest.

You are also invited to Light a Luminary for a Loved One by sponsoring a luminary in honor or memory of someone special. Luminary proceeds benefit the benevolent care fund.

Free Memory Screenings

Where: Valley Care Ambridge

Valley Care Adult Day Services will host a free, confidential memory screening event at their Ambridge Adult Day Center. These memory screenings, conducted in cooperation with the Alzheimer's Foundation of America's National Memory Screening Program, promote the awareness of early detection of memory problems, including Alzheimer's disease.

Individuals who may wish to be screened include adults with memory concerns, a family history of dementia or Alzheimer's disease, or those who wish to have the results for future comparison. 

All screenings are free of charge and will be administered by a nurse.

VNA Holiday Grief Sessions Available

VNA, Western Pennsylvania will hold a community outreach program for those facing the holidays after a loss. The 45-minute session will be presented by Kelli Connolly, grief recovery specialist and medical social worker from VNA, and will include a remembrance ceremony. There is no fee to attend and light refreshments will be served.
