Your Gift Can Make a Difference

"I wanted to give back," said Amy Core, a 12-year resident of Passavant Retirement Community. "And with a charitable gift annuity, I know my money is going exactly where I want it to go."

Under the terms of a gift annuity, the donor makes a charitable gift of cash or other appropriate property. In return, the donor receives fixed payments for life. The frequency and amount of the payments are determined at the time the gift annuity is funded. The payments will never change and are designed to continue regardless of how long the donor lives.

Mrs. Core funded her gift to Lutheran SeniorLife with some appreciated stock. She received a charitable gift deduction, avoided some capital-gain tax, and received a higher return on the stock provided, plus she can count on guaranteed income for life.

"It really worked out well," Core said. "It's a win-win situation," she said, adding that she is pleased to have made the gift now, rather than wait and have it distributed through her will later.

Although the charitable gift annuity is becoming an increasingly popular way to make meaningful gifts while enjoying income and tax benefits, there are several other planned giving options to choose from including bequests, Life Income Agreements, gifts of life insurance and gifts of retirement plans.
