Health & Wellness Ministry
Founded as a ministry of the Lutheran Church, Lutheran SeniorLife honors our heritage by offering services that connect people with their faith. Since 2009, Lutheran SeniorLife and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America have partnered to improve the health and wellness of congregations and communities through initiatives such as:
- Faith community nursing (parish nursing)
- Exercise programs
- Blood pressure and other screenings
- Health and wellness promotion
- Individual or group volunteer activities and outreach
- Coordinating speakers on desired topics
Through initiatives like these, participants achieve a stronger balance between the many factors that impact one's health - physical, spiritual, social/relational, intellectual, financial, occupational and environmental wellness - resulting in a more Abundant Life.
As part of this ministry, we have compiled a listing of resources to assist with wellness concerns for people of all ages. That listing is available by clicking here.
Our Agency Speakers Bureau is also coordinated through this ministry.

Additional Faith-Based Services at Lutheran SeniorLife
In addition to our Health & Wellness Ministry, we offer a full-time chaplaincy service at both Passavant Community and St. John Community. The presence of our chaplains brings great peace of mind to our residents and their families.
Our residents and members of the surrounding communities are always welcome at our weekly and holiday worship services and to participate in Bible studies and a variety of other spiritual clubs and groups.
Our faith-based services were first implemented and continue today due to Lutheran SeniorLife’s governance by representatives of the Northwestern Pennsylvania, Southwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia-Western Maryland Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Lutheran SeniorLife’s board of directors also created a standing committee – the Moral Owners Committee – to help ensure that the direction of our programs and services is in line with the organization’s faith-based mission of providing an Abundant Life®.
As a Social Ministry Organization of Lutheran Services in America, we work in conjunction with other member organizations across the country to expand and foster our faith-based connections.
